At one80 Dental our dental hygienist has many years’ experience. Your appointment will be gentle, thorough, caring and professional. We provide the highest quality dental hygiene therapies and dental cleaning appointments using the latest techniques including Airflow. If you’re a nervous patient, or if you haven’t been to the dentist or dental hygienist for a long time, do not worry, you are in very safe hands at our dental practice in Totley, Sheffield. Our goal is for you to achieve a healthy smile and gums and tailor treatment specifically to your needs.

Preventing Gum Disease

During your first appointment with the dental hygienist, they will spend time discussing your current oral hygiene routine and any concerns you may have regarding your gums, general oral health and your tooth brushing technique. A typical visit will include our hygienist taking you on a tour of your mouth, focusing on the health of your gums, assessing for any signs of active gum disease. They’ll take plaque and bleeding scores as a baseline to check your gum health, to measure your progress, and to help you maintain a healthy result. Your teeth will then be professionally cleaned using our EMS Airflow system, which will leave your teeth feeling cleaner than ever before.

Professional Teeth Cleaning with EMS Airflow

The EMS Air-Flow®system will help to brighten, freshen and protect your smile and is particularly effective in the management of gum disease. Leaving you with a clean feeling after every visit. The system efficiently and gently removes stains, plaque biofilm and calculus, using a high-powered antibacterial stream of water, compressed air and fine powder particles. This non-invasive treatment is pain-free and recognised as one of the most effective methods of tooth cleaning and stain removal.

Minimise the Risk of Developing Gum Disease

Keep your gums and teeth healthy, prevent gum disease and bad breath associated with it. Our skilled dental hygienist won’t just carry out a thorough clean of your teeth and gums, they’ll also show you the most effective ways to keep your teeth and gums clean and healthy at home. Doing so will help to minimise the risk of developing gum disease in the future.

Preventing Periodontal Disease

As a specialist dental practice, we are committed to providing treatment and preventive care for gum and periodontal disease. Our experienced hygienist works in collaboration with our periodontist and prosthodontists. Providing essential periodontal and peri-implant support to ensure all of our patients have the highest possible standard of care, no matter what treatment they are undergoing.

Hygiene Service FAQs

How can I keep on top of my oral health?

At one80 Dental we have dental maintenance plans to help manage the costs of regular oral health appointments, and most importantly to keep you on top of your oral health routine. Our plans include convenient, monthly payments to cover your oral health care, as well as many other benefits for your commitment to your oral health and to our practice. Visit our Memberships page for more information.

How often should I see the hygienist?

This depends on the advice you receive from your check-up with the dentist or depending on the type and complexity level of any treatment you are receiving. For routine maintenance appointments you should generally plan to visit the dental hygienist between one to two times per year, though this can vary.

Can I see the hygienist without seeing the dentist first?

Yes, you can see a dental hygienist or therapist without having to see a dentist first for a check-up. At one80 Dental we offer these appointments known as ‘Direct Access’ in which you can take advantage of a gum health check, oral health advice and a thorough clean. However, dental hygienists are unable to diagnose or provide treatments for routine and more complex dental conditions. Additionally, we operate a policy in which if you have not seen a dentist for over six months, you will be advised to make an appointment for a check-up with a dentist.

What is Airflow treatment?

The Airflow teeth cleaning process will remove damaging plaque biofilm that develops above and below the gumline, including the deep pockets that may have formed due to gum disease. In addition, the specially formulated powders can remove even the most persistent stains, including those caused by tea, coffee, tobacco, red wine and some medications. Treatment is suitable for both adults and children and can be used on restorations such as crowns, veneers, bridgework and dentures, and is particularly effective in the maintenance of dental implants, patients with sensitive teeth and patients undergoing orthodontic treatment.
