What is it?
Botulinum Toxin Type A is a muscle relaxant and has been used in the medical industry for over 30 years. In facial aesthetics, it is used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Where is it used?
It is used on the forehead to soften horizontal frown lines and between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) to reduce the appearance of vertical lines giving a more relaxed and youthful look.
How does it work?
The treatment is introduced into the muscles using very fine needles and works by temporarily stopping nerve impulses to the muscles giving facial expression. The muscles are prevented from contracting, giving a smoother, wrinkle free appearance. Your practitioner is experienced in facial anatomy and will treat specific muscles, allowing for normal facial expressions.
Is treatment painful?
There may be minor discomfort as the fine needle enters the skin but a local anaesthetic cream can be applied before treatment. Following treatment, you may experience slight bruising and your practitioner will advise you about aftercare.
How long will it last?
The benefits may take 2-3 days to show and the full effect will be apparent after a few weeks, lasting up to 4 months.
