State-of-the-art practice One80 Dental is hosting a Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) course on December 6 – the only one of its kind in the North of England.
The custom designed practice and teaching facility, which opened in October, will be welcoming practitioners from across the UK for a day of CPD on the 3D imaging technique.
CBCT – which provides x-ray images of the jaw and teeth – has become increasingly important in treatment planning and diagnosis in implant dentistry, endodontics and orthodontics.
The full-day CBCT session provides six hours of verifiable CPD and will guide dental health professionals through the legal requirements of introducing CBCT in a practice.
Principal dentist Dr Nigel Rosenbaum, who teaches at The University of Sheffield, said: “We are excited to share our first class facilities with those wanting to learn specialist techniques. We will be hosting a wide range of CPD topics including an integrated approach to implants, guidance on when to refer and the issue of patient consent.”
Anyone using dental CBCT, including those who are simply referring patients, is required by The Health Protection Agency Centre for Radiation, Chemical and Environmental Hazards, part of the Department of Health, to do specific training.
Radiation doses arising from the use of dental CBCT can be significantly higher than from conventional dental x-ray equipment.
The course is relevant to new or existing CBCT owners, practitioners referring patients for third-party imaging, radiography nurses wishing to take CBCT images and anyone planning clinical cases with 3D software.
Through theoretical groundwork, case-study presentation and a practical hands-on workshop, the course supports theoretical and practical aspects of the British Society of Dental and Maxillofacial Radiology curriculum.
Delegates will learn how to use CBCT systems and reporting software and will be given free 3D Planning Software from Carestream Dental.
